The coronavirus pandemic has forced all of us to spend a lot more time at home - and unsurprisingly, the people of Britain have been getting far more use out of their gardens during lockdown.
In a survey conducted by composite decking specialists TimberTech, 62.5% of respondents said that, since the COVID-19 outbreak, they have been out in the garden much more often than before (250 out of 400 responses).
A further 17% of respondents said they have been out in the garden slightly more often than before (68 out of 400 responses).
Just 1.75% of respondents replied that they have been out in the garden slightly less often than before (5 out of 400 responses) or much less often than before (2 out of 400 responses).

These results suggest that spending more time in the garden has been a crucial part of the country's coping strategy during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jason Cole, Managing Director of TimberTech UK's parent company Greensquares Products Ltd, said:
"It comes as no surprise that so many people have been relying on their outdoor spaces more since COVID-19 arrived on these shores. The government's lockdown measures - though necessary - have led to a feeling of being cooped up, and the garden has been a welcome escape for those of us lucky enough to have an outdoor space of our own.
"TimberTech saw a huge spike in enquiries last year, with more people than ever before looking to add decking to their properties. The COVID-19 pandemic really seems to have driven home the value of having a pleasant outdoor living space that we can make use of during our downtime."
About the survey
The survey was sent to Greensquares customers in the UK and received 400 responses:
- 335 from England
- 38 from Wales
- 25 from Scotland
- 2 from Northern Ireland
These responses were submitted between 19th November 2020 and 6th January 2021. Respondents were UK residents who use their outdoor spaces a lot: 75.5% of respondents stated that they use their outdoor spaces 'every day' in spring / summer, and a further 23.3% use their outdoor spaces 'at least once a week' in spring / summer.
Even during the colder months, the majority of respondents continue to make use of their gardens; 17% of respondents stated that they use their outdoor spaces 'every day' in autumn / winter, and a further 45.8% use them 'at least once a week' in autumn / winter. Only 1 respondent out of 400 stated that their property does not have a garden or outdoor space.
