To the man on the street, composite decking might not seem as attractive as real wood products. We’ve been trained to believe that natural products are inherently better than artificial ones, and surely a garden deck will look all the more gorgeous for being made out of genuine wood...won’t it?

But if composite decking has taught us one thing, it’s this: even nature can benefit from a little helping hand every now and again! We’ve done our best to bring you materials that look as much like real wood as possible, and a TimberTech deck looks surprisingly similar to a hardwood construction. Only an expert would spot the difference, and even if composite decking doesn’t look absolutely identical to the real deal, some might say that’s a good thing. After all, hardwood decking doesn’t look all that good when it’s gone exposed to the elements for too long!

Interestingly, composite decking materials are more eco-friendly than natural wood products, too. Hardwood decking production involves deforestation, and we at TimberTech can proudly boast that not a single tree gets cut down to make our composite decking. There is real wood within the boards, but we only use reclaimed wood that would go straight into a landfill if we didn’t use it. Not only are we leaving the forests alone, we’re keeping usable wood products off the rubbish heap!

Composite wood decking is better than hardwood decking in almost every respect. If you’re still not convinced that TimberTech decking is up to the task, we’d  strongly recommend that you order a free sample pack today. It’s sure to persuade you that composite is king!

Hardwood decking has plenty of advantages. High-quality, genuine hardwood looks and feels fabulous, and the authentic feel is more than worth the cost.

But hardwood decking can also be a bit of a hassle. Installation can be fiddly, especially if you want your decking to look good, and real wood requires rather a lot of maintenance and care. And then of course come the issues of rot, decay, splintering, and general fading over time. Your tropically-coloured hardwood decking may look great when you buy it, but how long will it stay that way?

That’s why we’re so passionate about composite decking. Installation is a breeze – you won’t require any specialist tools, and the Concealoc system gives you a flawless finish without any difficulty. Better yet, once your composite decking is down, you only need to sweep it and give it a light power wash now and again to keep it spectacular. Stripping and oiling don’t enter into it!

Composite decking is also more durable, resisting rot and decay for decades. For more information on why we believe that composite decking is so much better than hardwood decking, head over to our hardwood decking page.

If you’re thinking about hardwood decking boards, then what a great choice! Compared to the mass-produced, softwood boards you get in your DIY superstore, they’re a lot better quality and come in those gorgeous tropical hardwood colours too.

But before you make your mind up and buy hardwood decking boards, have a look at our decking products – you might have second thoughts about what sort of decking you choose.

While hardwood decking boards look great, they do come with their problems. After their first season of looking all new and shiny, you’ll have to spend time the following year sanding and staining them. They can get really slippery and hazardous in the wet weather, and let’s not mention the environmental impact of cutting down all those trees.

So have a look at TimberTech – our products are greener and cleaner, and make all kinds of sense. Our Earthwood Evolutions range come in tropical hardwood shades like teak, walnut and rosewood, so you’ll get the effect of hardwood decking boards but without the maintenance or the environmental impact.
