Ideas and updates from the TimberTech blog

If there's one thing that's guaranteed to put smiles on faces here at TimberTech HQ, it's a stunning set of photos from a job well done. Simon Kiff of Pembrokeshire recently added our cable rail system to his garden deck, and the pictures we took of the completed project really are outstanding.

Mr Kiff already had a deck in place, but he decided that our steel cable rail would make the perfect finishing touch. We're inclined to agree - sleek stainless steel makes the perfect companion for those modern grey deck boards. Particularly impressive is the fact that Simon installed the cable rail himself, which is testament to both his own aptitude as a handyman and the easy-to-use design of our cable rail system. Install it without wasting money on workmen!

Our cable rail system is superbly sturdy. It's made from corrosion-resistant, marine grade stainless steel, so you can rest assured that your handrail will never rust or give way. It's also worth noting that the posts come with base plate covers to give a flawless finish and hide those unsightly fixings that might otherwise compromise your deck's appearance. The rail offers both safety and style; if, like Simon, you have a deck that is raised above ground, the cable rail system will minimise the likelihood of an accident, and the barrier will still look magnificent even if you're not worried about nasty falls.

We think that Mr Kiff's new and improved garden deck looks absolutely amazing, complementing his house perfectly and giving him a great view of the lawn beyond (that's another great thing about the cable rail - it doesn't obstruct the view too much!) We wish him many enjoyable days out on the deck, and hope that his beautiful photos have inspired some of you to follow suit!

Whether you'd like to add a deck to your home or just a cable rail system to your existing garden deck, we at TimberTech would love to hear from you. Give us a call on 029 2037 1584, or email info@timbertechuk.co.uk to discuss your project with a member of our team.

Glass balustrade with handrail

Generally speaking, composite decking is designed to look like nice, natural wood. Our deck boards mimic the grain of hardwood timber very closely indeed, and this is great news for people who want a traditional look in their outdoor living space.

But what about the people who want a slightly sleeker, more contemporary style? Do we have anything to offer them? Well, yes, we do: our stainless steel glass balustrade system. Not only does this option give you a sturdy barrier around the perimeter of your garden deck, it will also bring its appearance right into the 21st century. The balustrade is made from marine-grade stainless steel and pristine toughened glass; these materials come together to create a fantastically smooth and modern look.

The real beauty of our balustrade lies with the glass panels; they don't block the light, so you'll still have a great view of your garden. The steel posts and handrail add a sleek, stylish edge, ensuring that everyone's eyes are on your great new deck.

Our cable railings are perhaps the most modern way in which you can add handrails to your decking. Cable railings provide a superbly sleek and subtle framework to your handrails that of course comes with Timbertech’s exceptional level of quality. If you’re looking for an effortlessly stylish way to complement your decking, we suggest these railings are the best way to go.

Sometimes, when a product of such style and chic is presented to us, we cannot help but think the quality has been compromised in some way. This is not the case with our cable railings as we use only the most superior materials available to us. Take the steel posts we use for an example, we use marine-grade 316 stainless steel – not only is this extremely strong and corrosion-resistant, but it is going to fair very well with all the British weather can throw at it!

The brackets used to attach the cable railings are made from a single cast which ensures a high level of stability. Our attention to detail and pursuit for quality even led us to make the baseplates (which cover the fixings) using a superior steel material.

The cables themselves use a far thicker material than inferior systems which can dent easily. We also use threaded holes in our posts, as well flow-drilling our steel handrails – this may sound technical, but what it basically means is you’re left with a far stronger fixing than if taps were used as they can wear loose over time.

Your finished result is a cable railing system that is built as well as it looks. This is going to be of great comfort to you as you’re not going to want to get rid of them anytime soon. What our railings give you is an incredibly simple, unobtrusive concept that packs a real stylish and contemporary punch. Plus, you’re certainly not going to hinder any stunning views through these, are you?

Our glass balustrade isn't solely suitable for decked areas. In these photos, you'll see that we recently installed a beautiful balustrade onto a tiled patio area, and we think it works just as well here as it does on our decks!

This lovely, two-tiered garden is attached to a home in Cwmbran, and we're happy to report that the owner was extremely pleased with our work. The balustrade itself is made from stainless steel and toughened 10mm glass; it's a supremely sturdy piece of design, and it will stay looking shiny and new for years to come!

This particular customer elected not to include a top handrail with their glass balustrade system. While the handrail does make for a sleek, stylish finishing touch (it's made from the same modern-looking stainless steel as the rest of the balustrade), the rail still looks absolutely stunning without it. The open-topped glass panels are arguably even more contemporary without the handrail on top, and the clear, unobstructed view that they afford is absolutely perfect.

All in all, we think that this particular installation is proof positive that a glass balustrade doesn't need decking to look delightful. Whether or not you want the composite decking to go with it, call 02920 371584 today to discuss plans for your own glass balustrade system.

The main purpose of a handrail is to provide support, to give you something to hold on to while you're moving around. But practicality shouldn't preclude the possibility for prettiness, and TimberTech's decking handrail products are as beautiful as they are useful. We'd heartily recommend including a handrail in your deck design - whether or not you need the extra stability, the rail will make a gorgeous addition to your outdoor space!

Our ornamental decking handrails are made from the same attractive, eco-friendly composite wood products as the decking boards themselves, so you can rest assured that the handrail will match the deck! Our rails come in three different colours (Cedar, Grey, and Redwood), allowing you to choose the decking handrail that's best suited to your design.

These ornamental rails look wonderfully authentic - just like real wood, in fact, although in many ways they're superior to standard wooden handrails. Wood is susceptible to rot and splintering, whereas composite wood is far more durable and doesn't even require staining or sealing. A TimberTech decking handrail is just like a TimberTech deck: it will look fantastic for years, come rain or shine!

So if you want to give your dream deck an equally dreamy finishing touch, an ornamental decking handrail will do the job rather nicely. This is one handrail that's well worth holding on to!
