Ideas and updates from the TimberTech blog

Just as there's more than one way to skin a cat, so too are there many different ways in which to lay a deck! It isn't merely a question of whether you're going to place the boards horizontally or vertically; as you're about to see, it's possible to create all kinds of interesting patterns by getting a little bit imaginative with your decking.

Decking design ideas

You'll find some of our favourite deck patterns over on our Decking Design Ideas page - here are a few examples to get the cogs whirring:

  • Herringbone patterns (see central image above) are commonly used when laying floorboards indoors; why not emulate those zig-zags with your deck?

  • An arresting patchwork effect can be created by laying some boards horizontally and others vertically:

  • If you fancy combining two different deck colours - or if you're simply unable to choose just one favourite - you may wish to attempt a picture frame look, using one type of deck board as the border for another. The results should look something like this:

These are just a few ideas - the possibilities really are endless! If you've got a good idea for a decking design, get in touch with TimberTech for a project quotation and any further advice you might need.

Try something a little more contemporary today!

When you picture a deck, you probably picture something like this:

Cedar decking

This is what we at TimberTech refer to as a 'traditional' deck: the sort of deck that people have been adding to their homes for decades, with rich brown boards and a natural wood grain. It's a picturesque look, for sure, but it's also a very conventional one, and if you want something slightly more unusual for your outdoor space then you may be more interested in one of our more modern decking ranges.

Here are three examples of what we have to offer would-be deck owners with contemporary-leaning tastes:

Silver maple decking

EasyClean Terrain+ Silver Maple

As their name suggests, our Silver Maple deck boards have a silvery look that's flecked with hints of a darker grey for added visual appeal. These were the boards we supplied for ITV's Love Your Garden series; the brief for the episode in question was to create a futuristic garden design for a family of five, so our Silver Maple decking already has a great reputation as a thoroughly modern choice!

Grey decking

Reliaboard Grey

These deck boards represent a stunning collision of modern and traditional styles: they have an organic-looking wood grain, but the striking grey colour puts them among the most contemporary decking choices on the market!

VertiGrain Grey Decking

VertiGrain Grey

Last but not least, here's another gorgeous grey decking product - the grained surface is very appealing, and since VertiGrain decking is compatible with our CONCEALoc® fixing system, there'll be no visible fixings to spoil the look of the boards. In fact, all of the products mentioned above are compatible with the CONCEALoc® system, so you'll never have to worry about those unsightly joints and screws!

We have a huge range of contemporary composite decking options to choose from here at TimberTech UK - contact us to discuss your project today!

Decking looks dazzling - that's a major part of why we love it so much! Here are some of our favourite decking images from around the TimberTech website (there are loads of others to be found in our Gallery).

Grey deck design

This thoroughly modern design uses our stunning grey Reliaboard decking, which combines low-maintenance technology with a natural-looking wood grain. We love this two-tier layout very much, especially with the matching wooden bench!

Geese on composite decking

Looks like these feathered friends appreciate our composite decking! This rather sweet picture is taken from our Balcony & Roof Decking page, where you'll find a whole lot of information about the solutions we can provide for roof terraces and balconies that need a little bit of brightening up.

Composite wood steps

Here's a close-up to end on. This shot shows off the detail that goes into every deck we supply; we think that these composite wooden steps look absolutely flawless.

When we talk about ‘decking accessories’, we’re usually referring to our CONCEALoc® products – the screws and fasteners that are practically invisible once installed, leaving your flawless new deck unfettered by unsightly fixings.

That, however, is a blog post for another day. Today we’re talking about a different kind of decking accessory – the kind of accessory that looks appealing and adds interest to a space. These decking accessories will really help you to feel at home on your deck.

Right, now that we’ve hacked through the semantics, allow us to share with you some of our favourite decking accessories...

Coloured Lamps
Every deck needs lighting – especially at this time of year, when the nights are starting to draw in – but nobody ever said that lights had to be boring. Top design boffins have harnessed the power of LED lighting to create colourful lamps like the one in the image above. Great for adding a bit of vibrancy to the deck – some of them even change colour!

Bunting
A British favourite – those little triangular flags tend to be our first port of call when decorating the garden. Bunting looks great at any time of year, so why wait for another royal wedding? Get the bunting out and string it up in your outdoor space today.

Reclining Chairs
You may have to pay a pretty penny for a recliner that can survive life in the garden (weatherproof armchairs tend not to come cheap!) but if you can get your hands on one, you’ll really, really appreciate the benefits. Just go out into the garden on a sunny evening, glass of wine in hand, and sit back as far as that chair will go...we feel relaxed just thinking about it!

Fondue Set
It could be a cheese fondue, or it could be a chocolate fondue like the one in the picture above; either way, it’s hard to imagine the gathering of friends that wouldn’t enjoy having a fondue set at their centre! We’d advise you to place the fondue set on a table or mat of some sort, rather than straight onto the decking – you wouldn’t want to leave a burn mark. Other than that, just make sure everybody’s got a fork and tuck in!

Fountain
Finally, we couldn’t finish off this list without mentioning fountains. A water feature will add elegance anywhere it’s placed, and we think that fountains look especially nice on deck. Don’t you agree?
