Happy New Year! We’ve just entered 2019 and if it’s your job to redesign the garden this year, it’s our job to get you up to speed on the latest decking trends so that you can create a garden that’s both stylish and contemporary. We’ve scoured the internet to bring you an insight into the most fashionable deck designs and accessories that will gain popularity in 2019.

Picture Framing

Choosing to apply a different coloured trim around the perimeter of your decking, also known as picture framing, is by no means a new practice but it is set to rise in popularity in 2019. Homeowners who want to incorporate a deck into their garden that’s both practical and fashionable will love this trend! Visit one of our TimberTech showrooms if you’d like to have a look at the different coloured deck boards available. Our sales team are sure to offer you advice on which deck boards are most complimentary together if you’d like to achieve this look.

Split Decks

Splitting your deck over multiple levels is sure to be a hit this year. Homeowners want to add decks to their unusually shaped or sloped gardens, and split deck designs, such as the one you see here allow you to do that. You can create a deck that covers multiple levels by incorporating steps and a balustrade or handrail for safety. Why not take a look at our 3D deck designs on Pinterest to see a selection of different split deck designs?

Glass Balustrades

Whether your home overlooks an area of natural beauty or a busy city, if you want to be able to look out from your deck and enjoy the view then glass balustrades are a perfect option. In 2019, we predict that the desire for minimalist, modern and practical garden accessories will be on the rise – meaning glass balustrades will be a popular choice.  At TimberTech we offer glass balustrades with or without handrails and also frameless glass balustrades for creating a truly seamless look. View the entire glass balustrade range here.

We look forward to hearing from you if you plan to give your garden a new lease of life in 2019. If you have any questions about the products or designs you see here, please get in touch with our sales team on 029 2080 3756.

When it comes to composite decking, two brands stand out from the rest as the pioneers and market leaders of composite deck boards; ourselves TimberTech and Trex. However, we believe that when it comes to choosing a composite deck for your home project, you shouldn't look any further than TimberTech and here are a number of reasons why.

Larger Product Range

Unlike Trex, TimberTech offers an extensive range of composite deck options for you to choose from. In total, there are 5 different composite deck types available at TimberTech, each coming in 2-4 varying colour options. Trex on the other hand only offers 2 different types of composite deck. A larger deck and colour range is ideal as it provides customers with more options to choose from, with the ability to meet a plethora of design ideas as well as increasing accessibility to a wider scale of budgets. TimberTech offer quality composite deck boards at both ends of the scale, with their ReliaBoard and VertiGrain boards at the lower end and their EasyClean TerrainTropical and Legacy capped boards offering a premium option. This leads us onto our next comparable.

Materials & Capping

The way in which both brands manufacture their boards is similar. Both use a mixture of recycled wood fibres and plastics to produce the core of each composite deck board. However, the main difference between the two brands is in how they 'cap' their boards. Capped deck boards are coated with a resistant polymer wrap that protects the boards from all types of stains, fades, abrasions and most importantly moisture. Capping prolongs the life of a deck board significantly and the way in which TimberTech choose to cap the boards may be the biggest advantage we have over our competitors.

Trex boards are capped only at the top surface, whereas TimberTech's composite boards are fully wrapped. What this means is TimberTech boards are wrapped in a full polymer sleeve, which completely seals out any moisture from breaking through and potentially causing damage to the board. When exposed to moisture, boards can absorb water which causes the decking to expand and contract which can cause the boards to split or warp. By TimberTech fully protecting their boards, they remove this possibility

Warranty

So, what happens if your boards to split or bow? There's no need to worry as both companies offer a warranty. Trex's warranty stands at 25 years, whereas, TimberTech's warranty stands at 30 years.

For these reasons, we believe that TimberTech is the one and only place to go for your composite decking. We cater to a larger amount of people, manufacture the best boards possible and ensure our customers can enjoy their deck for three whole decades. So, what are you waiting for? Our hard-wearing, slip-resistant decking is intended to be enjoyed all year round, so Christmas is the perfect time to add a special little something to your home and garden. Granted, we're not saying you'll be sitting out there enjoying a glass of mulled wine in the not-so-great British weather, but, it does make for a pretty amazing platform to show off your decorating skills this Christmas.

Here are just a couple of ideas to 'deck out' your decking this Christmas, adding a dose of festive fun to your outdoor space:

A Real Christmas Tree

It's simple but effective, all you need is a solid base and some (ideally solar-powered) fairy lights and you're good to go! As we like to be as tree-friendly as possible here at TimberTech, we would also encourage you to ensure that your tree is provided by the British Christmas Tree Growers Association and that you do not let it become part of the 90% of trees that end up in a landfill this year. Many councils allow you to compost them, so be sure to look for your nearest recycling point once the festive season has come to an end.

 Icicle Curtain Christmas Lights

This Christmas Decorations Outlet stock some lovely, draped icicle lights, in a range of tones and lengths to suit your needs. We think they would look fantastic draped over one of our glass balustrades.

It’ll soon be Christmas, so it’s time to start thinking about how your TimberTech decking can reach its full festive potential. We have put together a selection of decorative ideas that are sure to complement all of our TimberTech products.

Add a Christmas Wreath

A Christmas wreath is the perfect outdoor decoration, combining evergreen branches with decorative ribbons and pine cones. We think a Christmas wreath (or two) would look gorgeous hung from your TimberTech Radiance Rail

Let There Be Light

Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without lights. If you haven’t already, we recommend investing in our Energy-Efficient Led Decking Lights. Available in five different colours, these lights will not only make your decking look incredibly Christmassy, but they will also ensure you can use your decking safely throughout the winter months – a great investment or gift.

Alternatively, you could invest in some waterproof Christmas lights and intersperse them through your trees and wind them around your decking to achieve a similar festive effect!

Beautiful Baubles

Add a touch of Christmas to the garden with some beautiful outdoor baubles. We think silver and red baubles, like the ones you see here, perfectly complement our EasyClean Terrain Composite Decking in Silver Maple. For warmer decking shades like Elm or Birch, you could use gold and copper baubles to achieve a similar effect.

Decorating your outdoor areas for Christmas can be just as fun as decorating the house! These are just a few ideas, but we’re sure once you start, you’ll think of many more.
