Not all of us are gifted with the kinds of grounds that demand a fulltime gardener. Many of us are humbled with a small plot of outdoor living space, but this shouldn’t mean our vision is equally slight! We’ve come up with 5 compelling small garden ideas that not only help us utilise our space, but they help our space feel fully utilised!

Planning Makes Perfect
We know this isn’t the most captivating place to start, but even the grandest of designs all started with some kind of plan. In fact, planning is even more crucial with a smaller space, as it’s all about getting the placement just right. You’ll want to consider the positioning of the sun throughout the day, as this will help determine where your plants go, and where your seating area is.
All Plants on Deck
You don’t need to have masses of space to have a balcony or decked area, in fact one of our favourite small garden ideas involves creating a sumptuous secluded sanctuary for yourself! Using woven hazel and masses of tall plants you can adorn a decked area beautifully, and ensure your little oasis feels more like a stretch of jungle!
Placement is key when it comes to designing a small garden – you also need to think about what you are going to use your garden for. A high-quality piece of outdoor furniture that doesn’t compromise too much floor space is a great place to start; not only does this give you a welcoming spot to sit, but it can also act as an ornamental piece in itself when not in use.
Divide and Conquer
We’ve saved the best of our small garden ideas for last, and this one is all about division. If you have a long, narrow garden, why not divide your space into several defined sections? You could open your door onto a small porch or deck for the first section; then you could have a small tree lined set of steps, or a stepping stone feature in the middle bit; and for the last section you could have a tiny lawn, or a set of furniture on some striking patio slabs.
Dividing your garden up allows you the opportunity to flaunt several design ideas in a small space!
Our composite decking is unparalleled in style, panache and quality. Once you’ve taken full advantage of our fantastic free samples and settled on one of our gorgeous products to refurbish your garden with, next comes the tricky part: installation. Here’s the top 5 tips you must remember when installing your TimberTech composite decking.
1. When you’re installing your composite decking make sure to keep the shallow groove which you’ll find on one edge of each board consistently on the same side. The fibres on each TimberTech board are directional, so by placing them all on the same side upon installation you’ll be ensuring that the sun casts a consistent shadow on your decking, giving a uniform shade across your deck.
2. Use standard wood working tools and standard pressure treated softwood timbers for the sub frame. TimberTech can be drilled, nailed, sawn or routed, without any danger of rotting!
3. Remember to use the CONCEALoc® bracket to fix the first and last board tightly into place
4. CONCEALoc® is designed to automatically create a 4mm gap between the TimberTech boards and we would urge you to keep to this measurement
5. For the neatest decking installation, pre-drill 4mm pilot holes when face fixing boards. Drive the screws until the head is flush with the surface of the board – don’t over-drive! Do not countersink your pilot holes.
If you’re not quite feeling brave enough to have a go at installing our composite decking yourself, we have an exquisite team of experienced TimberTech decking installers who are more than willing to help. However if you’re going to give it a go, remember these top 5 tips and have a little look at our Installation Resources before you begin. Good luck, merry decking!

It doesn’t take long to start realising the advantages of composite decking. Imagine someone has written down the biggest problems and annoyances associated with traditional timber decking – well basically, our deck remedies every one of those issues, and as such makes for an exquisite flooring surface! Now if you just bear with us for a moment, we’d like to talk you through the advantages of composite decking, and why it’s the benchmark for all other floors:
Little to No Maintenance
Nobody enjoys carrying out maintenance on their property, and there is nothing much worse than unnecessary maintenance! Timber decking requires regular staining, sealing, and painting just to keep it looking half-decent; we’re already pretty limited with our days of sumptuous weather as it is, do we really want to spend one or more of them with a paint brush in our hand?
Remaining safe in your property should always be a large consideration, and that’s why our decking remains one of the most slip-resistant available. Not only will you be able to freely roam your decked area without fear of a nasty slippage, you will also be able to roam barefoot without fear of a splinter. Our decking’s ability to resist slips and splinters makes it one of the safest outdoor walking surfaces money can buy!
When making an investment in something large like a decking project, you want the comfort of knowing it is going to last! Timber decking splits, splinters, and warps, but our decking boasts a 25 year guarantee that ought to prove just how serious we are. The careful manufacturing process ensures an extremely durable material, and its long-lasting properties will protect it from all of the elements!
The advantages of composite decking are ones that you’re going to feel and enjoy for a lifetime! To begin your journey to decking heaven, visit our website for more information.
